More Than Human
Gemma returned in 2023 from 4 years living in Vietnam to start an MSc in Human-Animal Interaction and Wellbeing. While she was in Vietnam she adopted a dog, spent hours working in rescue centres and taught horse riding at the Hanoi Pony Club for 2 years. It was through these experiences she realised her passion for working with animals and subsequently chose anthrozoology for her postgraduate studies.
While Gemma was waiting to start her MSc she started doing a bit of dog walking and pet sitting, mainly because she was missing her dog who was still in Vietnam. Well, needless to say, things took off!
Gemma reduced her full-time studies to part-time due to such a high demand for her pet sitting services.
In November 2023 she had her Vietnamese rescue dog Nelly sent over to England (that’s him napping on the left). Nelly is now a valued member of the More Than Human team and you will often find him joining group walkies or coming along to overnight stays with Gemma.
This team of 2 became 3 in April 2024 when Clarice made a post looking for some animal related work experience. After a successful first meeting with Nelly (he can be a bit shy with new humans) Gemma showed Clarice the ropes and she got fully stuck in to pet sitting and dog walking. Clarice is now undertaking her Level 2 Canine Behaviour.
